Libratone AirPlay Speaker Range Update 2015

The Wonderful Scandinavian brand that is Libratone has been busy expanding their range and giving some additional connectivity options to some of their existing speakers over the past few months so we thought now was a good time to give you an update on all of the current Libratone range of AirPlay speakers.
 
Let’s start with their top of the range and work our way down. Their top offering is for the living room and is called the Lounge.

Libratone Lounge


The Libratone Lounge is aimed at taking a prominent place in the heart of your home entertainment setup. It features a minimalistic design but delivers a lot of sound. You can stream music to it via AirPlay, Libratone’s PlayDirect or via DLNA directly from iPads, iPhones, iPod Touch, Mac, Windows and Android devices. It even connects to your TV using an analog or digital cable.

Features

The Lounge features Libratone’s FullRoom tech which creates a great 360 degree sound delivery, all from the single unit. It can also be used with other Libratone speakers using their multi-room streaming, which supports up to 6 speakers at a time.
 
It doesn’t come with a remote so you control it using an app from your iPhone / iPad / iPod touch or your Mac/PC. Plus, you could even use your TV remote if you fancy hooking it up to your TV’s headphone out.
 

Connectivity

The Lounge supports AirPlay for use with Apple devices and you can use DLNA with others. In the absence of a wifi network you can use the PlayDirect feature or alternative it also has a 3.5mm jack input and a digital input as well.

Speakers & Amplifier

The unit features an inverted eight-inch woofer, 2 ceramic four-inch mid range speakers and 2 one-inch ribbon based tweeters. They are all powered by but the internal amplifier which delivers a total of 150W of power (50W bass, 2x 25W mid range, 2x 25W tweeters) and the frequency range is 38-20,000 Hz (Maximum output is 103dB SPL/1m).
 

Design & Finish

They have clearly gone for a high quality finish on the Libratone Lounge. It has a wooden body that features a high-end piano finish and has an Italian cashmere wool cover. This monolithic unit measures 27.3cm x 100cm x 12cm and weighs in at 12kg.
 


 

Libratone Diva


Next in the range is the Libratone Diva. This is again aimed to be a key feature of your home entertainment setup and is a combined sound bar and audio system with built-in subwoofer. It can even be wall-mounted under your flatscreen TV. You can even control it with your TV remote or smart device.

Features

The Diva comes with a wall mount and a stand, making it easily adaptable to wherever your TV is installed. It comes in Libratone’s signature Pepper Black and you can change the look by buying additional covers. There are 14 different colours to choose from!! The inclusion of a subwoofer within this single unit soundbar really is great and means that there is one less box to hide / obscure in the lounge. The ability to use Spotify Connect and HTC connect are also nice touches, and the IR Learning is very smart.
 

Connectivity

As you would hope with a solution designed to be at the heart of your home entertainment solution, the Diva supports a lot of different type of connections. These include Airplay, Bluetooth 4.0 aptX, NFC, DLNA (Android/Windows) and for physical connections there is an optical in and a 3.5mm mini-jack. It also even supports USB audio.
 
One of the things a sound bar needs to do is to fill the room with sound. The Diva achieves this using built-in sound reflectors shaped like clamshells. These disperse the sound in multiple directions, giving you a 360 degree sound that certainly fills the room.

Speakers & Amplifier

The total output of the Diva is 225W (1x75W bass and 2x50W mid range and 2x25W tweeters). They are a 1×5″ bass driver, 2×3″ mid range drivers and 2×1″ ribbon-based tweeters. The speakers are setup in a 2.1 Stereo configuration. The frequency range is 40-20,000Hz and the maximum output is 102dB SPL/1m.
 

Design & Finish

This is clearly designed for pride of place under the TV and is clearly made from high quality materials and can use one of the dizzying array of coloured covers made from Italian wool. It looks great and size-wise it measures up at 15.8cm x 98.8cm x 10cm. It weighs in at 5.5kg.
 


 

The Libratone Live


The Live is simple and stylish. It has a satin chrome handle, allowing you to easily pick it up and reposition it. It is designed to move with you around the house.

Features

As with the others, it has full digital amplification. It is setup in a 2.1 Stereo configuration and features Libratone’s FullRoom DSP optimization.
 

Connectivity

The Live supports Airplay (obviously), Libratone’s PlayDirect, DLNA (for Android/Windows) and has a 3.5mm mini-jack.

Speakers & Amplifier

Speaker-wise, the Live has a 5″ bass driver (50W), two 3″ mid range drivers (25W each) and two 1″ ribbon based tweeters (25W each) that combine to deliver 150W of output. The frequency range it delivers is 45-20,000Hz and the maximum output is 100dB SPL/1m.
 

Design & Finish

The Libratone Live is, like the other members of the Libratone range, made from high quality materials. From the satin chrome handle, the wooden body with the high-end piano finish and what Libratone product would be complete with its wool cover. The Live sports a cover made from Italian cashmere wool. It weighs in at 6.5kg, making it not too heavy to move around and size-wise it is 46.3cm x 20.5cm x 17.8cm.
 


 

Libratone Loop Wifi/BT 4.0


Libratone advertise the Loop as their most stylish and versatile wireless speaker. They say you can place it on a shelf, put it on the floor or easily mount it to the wall. The iconic circular design certainly makes it stand out. This updated version sports some additional features, giving this beautiful speaker a new lease of life and really adding a ton of features.

Features

It is a truly beautiful design and with options to stand it on a shelf or wall mount it you really do have some great flexibility on where to install this great AirPlay speaker. It features the Libratone FullRoom DSP optimization and following the re-vamp the Loop now allows a ton of additional connectivity options and even works with Spotify Connect & HTC Connect.
 

Connectivity

It always was an AirPlay speaker but add to that Bluetooth 4.0 aptX / NFC and DLNA (Android / Windows), plus the inclusion of the expected 3.5mm mini-jack and a USB audio connector, this newly upgraded version really is flexible and versatile.
 
Libratone Loop AirPlay Speaker - In The Box
 

Speakers & Amplifier

Featuring full digital amplification and setup in a 2.1 Stereo configuration, the Libratone Loop delivers 120W of power via the 1 x 4” bass driver , a passive radiator and 2 x 1” ribbon tweeters. The frequency range is 40-20,000Hz and the maximum output is 99dB SPL/1m.
 

Design & Finish

The great circular speaker has a diameter of 33.3cm and depth of 8.3cm. It looks great and comes complete with an Italian wool cover (just as you would expect it to). These are, of course, changeable and you can again choose from one of the, now, 14 different coloured covers. It weighs in at 2.7kg.
 


 

Libratone Zipp Wifi/BT 4.0


The upgraded Libratone Zipp is a great, portable, battery-powered AirPlay speaker that you can take with you as you move around your house, use it at work, or even take it with you outdoors.

Features

The Libratone Zipp has full digital amplification and is setup in a 2.1 Stereo configuration. The FullRoom sounds means that the speakers are directed slightly away from each other to create a more surrounding and fuller sound. The Zipp has 3 speakers in total and comes with a built-in rechargeable battery that will allow you to take it wherever you go. The battery will work for 4 hours when you use wireless audio but will stretch to double that if you use a wired input.
 

Connectivity

Just the like the original Zipp, this updated model still supports Airplay, but now you also get to use Bluetooth 4.0 aptX / NFC and DLNA (Android/Windows). It still has the 3.5 mm mini-jack and sports USB audio. It also supports Spotify Connect & HTC Connect.

Speakers & Amplifier

This is the smallest in the range and therefore is only has one bass driver (4 inches in size) and it has two 1-inch ribbon tweeters. Overall, it delivers 60W of output with a frequency range of 60-20,000Hz and a maximum output of 96dB SPL/1m.
 

Design & Finish

This little beauty has a replaceable cover (available in 14 different colours for an extra charge) and is finished to the high standard we have come to expect from Libratone. Great materials and a lightweight design (as this is a portable speaker, after all) make it a great speaker to take with you. It is tubular in design and measures 26cm high, with a diameter of 12.2cm and weighs in at 1.8kg.
 


 
 
We hope this overview of the current Libratone range was useful. The original versions of the Zipp and the Loop are still available out there but the updated versions really do give you some great new connectivity options for not a lot more money.
 
Libratone have delivered a great range here, though their looks aren’t for everyone.
