Apple’s Peer-To-Peer AirPlay in iOS 8 Makes AirPlay Even Easier

Following the release of Apple’s iOS 8 software not only can you still play content from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or from iTunes to your favourite AirPlay-enabled multi-room speaker setup or HDTV, but now you can send content to your HDTV via peer-to-peer AirPlay to your Apple TV without the need for your the devices to be on the same wireless network!

The new peer-to-peer AirPlay feature uses a combination of the wireless and Bluetooth functionality to achieve this and it is great for guests who can now show you those pictures and play their favourite content to your HDTV without you having to add them to your wireless network.

Peer-to-peer AirPlay requires an iOS device (2012 or newer) running iOS 8 or a Mac (2012 or newer) running OS X 10.10 and above and an Apple TV third-generation rev A (model A1469) running Apple TV software 7.0 or above.

Whether you want to stream content from the Internet to your HDTV, put your audio onto your best speakers wirelessly, or play your videos or photos on your big screen TV, AirPlay is a fantastic and simply way to do this.
