What Is Apple AirPlay?
AirPlay, from Apple, allows you to play content from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to AirPlay enabled speakers and even your HDTV if you use an Apple TV. You can wirelessly stream what’s on your iOS device or even mirror exactly what’s on your display to your HDTV screen.
Music and AirPlay
The ability to stream your audio from your iOS device to AirPlay enabled speakers on your wireless network sets your music free. Simply turn on your speaker(s) and then turn on AirPlay on your iOS device. You can then select your speaker and almost magically your audio output is transferred to your chosen speaker.
Along with the music AirPlay also streams song titles, artists, album names, elapsed and remaining time, and even album artwork. Therefore, if your AirPlay-enabled speaker has a display then these could all appear and be shown.
You can even use it with multiroom setups if you play from iTunes. Let’s say you have one set of speakers in the bedroom, one in your study and one in the living room. to more than one room simultaneously, so you’ll never lose the beat, no matter where you are in the house. Just choose Multiple Speakers from the AirPlay menu in iTunes to enable this.
Clearly this website focusing on the audio streaming side of AirPlay but AirPlay when used with your iOS device and an Apple TV can do so much more.
